1861-O Seated Half CSA Obverse - Die Crack NGC AU58 $17,950
For years this variety with the die crack was the only one definitively linked to being struck while the New Orleans Mint was in control of the Confederate States of America, and it remains the most desirable to this day. Another reason for its popularity is that it was the obverse die used to strike the incredibly rare Confederate reverse issue (four known). The insert reads Die Crack, and this coin can also be attributed as FS-401 and W-11. Fairly well-struck throughout, with some typical weakness in the later stars. Exhibits a pleasing variegated patina. By far the finest example we have handled.
