S-2946A. Sharply struck and very attractive, an old olive-steel patina and a nice portrait on the king. A very popular Civil War issue with the reverse legend RELIG: PROT: LEG/ANG:LIBER:PAR, an abbreviation of RELIGIO PROTESTANTIUM LEGES ANGLIAE LIBERTAS PARLIAMENTI, or 'The religion of the Protestants, the laws of England, the liberty of the Parliament.' This was the theme of Charles I's 'Wellington Declaration' in September 1642, an effort to win back the Parliamentarians before pitching battle.
